My Students

Kindergarten is a remarkable year of change and growth. It is a challenge to meet the high expectations that state standards require while still making Kindergarten developmentally appropriate for 5 and 6 year olds. Above all else, learning has to be fun for the children!

I teach on an air force base.

My students come to me from all over the world and United States. Our school is a Title 1 School and has a high rate of free and reduced lunch, and many times there is only one parent at home due to deployment. Standards vary across the US and world, so children come to me with a range of skills. They need a stable, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment at school to succeed and be prepared for first grade.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will keep learning math skills fun and inviting for students. We want students to continue to practice the skills that we have taught, and these folder games will do just that. All areas of our math standards are covered including: patterning and sorting, numbers and counting, beginning operations, and shapes and measurement. Students can choose to work alone or with a partner. These activities are an excellent way to extend their learning past "math" time and into choice center time. Best of all, this type of learning is developmentally appropriate for Kindergarten students - they are hands on and require students to think like the mathematicians they are! I know my students will have so much fun with these games!

The parents of the children I teach work hard every day and risk their lives to protect our freedom.

It is my thank you to them to give their child the strong foundational education that he/she deserves. Working on an air force base is an amazing experience, and I want to teach with the full extent of my knowledge and with the best teaching materials available to help these children achieve all of their dreams and reward them for the sacrifices they are forced to make every day.
