Help Mrs. Lochel

The most meaningful and exciting time of the day is when students sit down to hear me read a story aloud to them. The expression I use, the intonation in my voice, and the smoothness of my language are all things I want the children to be captivated by, and they are, automatically! However, the children aren't always able to use these techniques in their own reading. By providing students with books on tape, I will be providing them with more time to read, look, and listen to more fluent readers reading aloud. Books on tape are a great opportunity for students to hear this fluency and still read along with the words in the book. Students will use these books on tape during independent reading and center times throughout the day. I would also make these books on tape available for check out for students to take home. When busy parents don't have the time to read each night, students can rely on the tape. I am confident that this project will improve students' interest in reading, listening skills, and most importantly, their fluency in reading. In first grade, reading is the primary subject on which we focus. We integrate reading into every other curriculum area. I currently have 17 students in my class that would benefit from this fantastic project. Again, students truly enjoy and look forward to the time of day when listening to a great piece of literature is top priority. There are a vast majority of benefits that come from listening to books read aloud. For most of us, listening to books read aloud began when we were very young. Bedtime stories are comforting for children and can motivate them to become better readers. I simply want to make this experience more readily available for each and every student in my class. Think back to when you were young, listening to your favorite story time and time again. Think about how you became expressionistic and how reading became fun.
