My Project

My school serves PK-12th grade students, but we are very small. How small you ask? 110 students in the PK-5th alone! I have only 13 students in my 5th grade class. With that small number of students comes opportunity and misfortune.

Covid-19 has and is still impacting our small school.

Many students' attention span is very limited; ours is no different. Some are having a hard time sitting still while completing their work whether on a computer or using pencil and paper. I have found that sitting on the wobble chair cuts down from students getting up needlessly and from students staring off unnecessarily. I have one wobble chair in my classroom now that gets passed around everyday with students taking turns using it. I have witnessed the same students using the wobble chair and focusing much better than using a standard child’s classroom chair.

This will change my classroom with more attention to task and less roaming around the classroom and needless trips to the bathroom. Our classroom can center on our standards more clearly and efficiently if we had more wobble chairs in the classroom. This opportunity for a grant would give my classroom 10 additional wobble chairs!

Wobble chairs will not wipe out lack of attention span, but they will help increase attention span with their movement and flexible seating while the students sit and focus on their work.
