Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students need a comfortable and safe spot to sit for interactive read alouds, group lessons and discussions, class meetings, and space for student centered activities. A rug with clearly defined spots, such as the happy faces, gives students the boundaries they need to effectively focus without feeling unsafe with so many classmates around them. It also defines their own space so they have opportunities to collaborate during groups discussions. They can be in close proximity to each other while maintaining a comfortable distance. It also allows them, to be in close proximity to me for clearer focus as directions and instructions are given. Students often struggle with focusing, especially in a large class with many needs. Having a rug that is the right size with clear boundaries allows them to focus more freely. Those who need further redirection and more assistance to focus are close to the teacher and have clear visual markers to assist them in following teacher prompts.
