My Project

I often tell people that our students arrive at school hungry: hungry for love, hungry for food, and hungry for an education. Many overcome numerous problems at home that most adults never have to face. However, despite these circumstances, they still arrive each day with bright, eager faces, ready to learn. Like almost all children, when they can become engaged in learning through the use of hands-on materials as well as games and play, success follows at a higher rate.

The following is my favorite teaching quote: "I call my students "my kids" because in our year together they aren't just kids on my class roster, they become a part of my heart." The teachers in my district will do everything possible to help "our kids." Unfortunately, we will never be able to solve all of their problems.

However, for 8 hours each school day we have the opportunity to make them feel important and successful, but most of all, loved!

The materials that I am requesting will help to build fluency in my beginning readers. So many first graders struggle with developing fluency. My hope is to use these materials to build a firm reading foundation.
