My Students

Help us become professional readers! Reading fluently and with expression is a skill that takes lots and lots of practice. We want to make audio books that will help reading fluency and provide wonderful books for our younger students to enjoy!

My class of 20 students LOVE to read and write.

We spend two hours each day working on these skills. We are in a school of 350 students in grades k-5 in rural Maine. We do a lot to help others and the environment. Recycling is important in our school...we even recycle all of our milk cartons!

My Project

Second grade students love to read, but often stumble over the words and have a hard time understanding how to put expression in their reading. What better way to get students to practice their reading fluency and expression than to create a CD accompaniment to a favorite picture book! My students will record and re-record their reading until it is just the way they would like to hear it if they were listening to the story. The book and CD will then be given to our kindergarten and first grade classrooms for use in their listening centers. The project will really motivate my students to practice reading with fluency and expression so the recording is one that the younger students will want to listen to over and over again. I have chosen books at a variety of reading levels and student interest.

Children today are inspired by technology.

Any time a teacher can add a technological piece to a lesson it adds a whole new dimension to student learning. These students will be given a copy of their CD and will hear the progress made with just this one story. My struggling readers, especially will feel so successful when they present a story that they created and read all by themselves!
