Help me give my students bulbs so they can grow flowers and sell them at our Farmers Market.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with students with moderate to severe disabilities; some are non-verbal, some are minimal verbal, and many have low cognitive abilities. Together we run a large horticulture program and Farmer’s Market. My students are all unique individuals and I differentiate instruction based on their needs.
While working in our school-garden and at the weekly farm stand, my students continuously work on expanding their communication skills and independence.
In preparation for future employment, students practice communicating with each others, other colleagues on campus and supervisors. In preparation for their future and life outside of school, students need to practice to think and work as independently as possible by using various tools like iPads, paper-and-pencil checklists, etc.
My Project
At the weekly Farmers Market, my students sell flowers, vegetables, and plants. Most recently, we have received many compliments for our Zinnia flower bouquets, which were also funded with a DonorsChoose grant last year. As a result, our students are asking to grow more flowers in our school garden.
By providing us with a variety of flower bulbs, students will learn how to plant and take care of flowers grown from bulbs.
Some of the lessons around growing bulbs include reading the instructions on the bulb packages, preparing the needed supplies, and then planting the bulbs and taking care of them until flowers grow.
