My Students

By the end of this school year I want my students to be much more knowledgeable about many sports that are out there. One of the main sports in question is floor hockey! My students are always eager to get started so sometimes a challenge is getting them to stay on task and listen.

My students are very diverse in their backgrounds and what their home situations are like.

I have over 500 of them and it is a very busy day. They can be sad about their home situation in one instant and then the next they are laughing and playing in my gym like nothing happened. Sometimes it is not that easy though. My school is a Title I school so we need to really fundraise and work hard for all of our materials. Getting parents involved can be a real struggle. Despite the challenges that my school has, we still try to overcome and give our children the full experience. That is what they deserve.

My Project

My students need the materials that I have selected. The floor tape can be used for many different things in the gym. I can make floor spots with them, spots where students need to stand for certain drills, make an indoor track around the gym floor (which I have done but constantly gets ripped off). The floor tape will be instrumental in helping the Track grant we just got at our school. I can use it to mark off different parts of the gym for different distances the kids need to run. The mesh bags are needed just simply because we have lots of balls that need to be held together and sometimes they are easily lost or stolen. This happens when there is no place to put them. Last are the hockey nets. We need this because this is the FIRST year that we are going to try and teach floor hockey to the older grades (3rd-5th). We have no equipment for floor hockey so getting nets will get the kids amped up to start the unit. It will give them a goal to shoot for and make them want to score!

Donations for this project will help my classroom and students in many ways.

The kids will be able to learn and play a sport (floor hockey) that they have NEVER been able to try. They will be able to learn about distances on the track and specifically learn their sport if they later want to join a track team. The mesh bags will simply help keep all of the equipment together but that is just as important as the rest of the equipment that the students will work with. My students need your help.
