Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 5th grade students all come from a low-income high poverty area in Houston, Tx. All students qualify for free lunches. These students have all been affected by Hurricane Harvey. Some have lost everything due to the overwhelming flooding that has taken place in the Houston area. Although these students live in a high poverty area I feel strongly that they deserve all the tools necessary to receive the best education possible. This education will allow them to close their learning gaps and allow them to succeed at their grade level. This success will build confidence in these students and give all of them the chance to dream of thriving in a world beyond poverty and crime.

I will do whatever it takes to help my students be successful and to help them receive the education they deserve.

I will also work hard to give them the chance to live their lives with no boundaries to stop them from achieving their personal and educational goals!

My Project

The notebooks will keep the student's daily notes, problem examples and daily practice problems in one place for them to use as a daily resource. Their folders will help the students to keep the math homework and notes to go home in one organized place. The storage containers will help the students keep their learning materials and manipulatives organized to maximize learning time.

The manipulatives, fraction towers, fraction circles, geometric solids, and whiteboards and markers will help these low-income students with lower learning levels learn math content including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, place value, comparing and ordering numbers, rounding, order of operations, estimate, learn number fluency, learn standard algorithms, express problems with concrete objects and pictorial models and geometry.
