My Students

Third grade means making new friends, learning new ideas, reading new books, solving new problems, playing new games, reaching new goals, making new mistakes, and having fun the whole way through! I have a fantastic third grade class of learners, readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, explorers and more! They are excited about learning, curious about new things, and just sweet kids all around. The classroom I teach in has a variety of learners including inclusion students, students with basic skills and gifted students. Our school is a wonderful community. Everyone is kind and willing to help one another in any way possible.

My Project

Did you know your oxygen intake can affect your learning?

Flexible seating allows students to sit in a way that increases their oxygen intake and helps improve their focus!

But how? When we slump, our lungs are more closed. However, flexible seating allows students to move around and sit more upright, thus allowing a higher range of oxygen intake. All of that oxygen goes to the students' brains which allows them to focus better on instruction and thereby helps them with retention.

Kids are not developmentally ready to sit still for long periods of time until fourth grade. Flexible seating meets them at their learning level. That's where the yoga balls, stools, and balance discs I am requesting come into play. Flexible seating allows students to sit up better and move more freely. Don't we all do better when we are more comfortable? The kids are also able to choose which seating works best for them, too. By using this type of seating, they can focus better on their learning.
