Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students in my high school aerospace and flight program will engage in hands-on learning with interactive tools that bring flight to life. Paintable wooden airplanes will help them understand flight control surfaces as they label and map out ailerons, elevators, and rudders to see how they affect movement. Small electric motors will introduce them to rotational force, laying the groundwork for understanding how the larger model engine generates power to spin a propeller prior to assembling it. Walkie-talkies will provide a fun, immersive way to practice real-world radio communication as students move around the classroom simulating in-flight scenarios. These tools will spark curiosity, build foundational skills, and give students a unique opportunity to explore aviation early—ultimately preparing them for the incredible achievement of earning their private pilot certificate.

My students are incredible—many come from underprivileged backgrounds, but they are fighters who rise to every challenge when given the chance.

The rigorous nature of this program, especially in senior year, attracts bright, determined minds who push themselves to excel. Fun, hands-on projects like these not only deepen their understanding of aviation but also foster teamwork, engagement, and a sense of accomplishment. These activities give them something tangible to take home, a reminder of what they’re capable of, and a chance to support and uplift each other as they work toward their dreams.

This program means the world to me and my students—it's a rare opportunity to launch their aviation dreams and set them up for an exciting future. These hands-on experiences wouldn’t be possible without your generosity. Thank you!
