Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently teach in a second grade ESL self-contained classroom. My classroom is full of diverse students, coming in with different backgrounds and experiences. Most of my students come from low-income homes and receive free school lunch. Working in New York City public school is a blessing, as I'm able to learn so much from my students' various cultures. My school is a Title 1 school, comprised of about 1,000 children. Each day, my students come to school with a smile on their face, prepared to tackle whatever they're presented with. Most of my students come to me speaking little to no English at all. Through differentiation, relationship-building, and modeling, it's amazing to see how much these students grow throughout the school year.

My goal is to create an environment where my students feel loved, cared for, and one where they can grow and succeed!

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go and how it will be used. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! Through a previous Donors Choose project, my classroom was gifted three comfy floor seats! This quickly became my students' favorite flexible seating option, and I'm requesting three more to give more students the chance to use these daily. The easel will help save space in our classroom, while also giving me the flexibility to move it around to wherever the learning is happening! We will use the easel daily during mini-lessons, small group work, and morning messages. The drawer organizers will serve as my student mailboxes. Students will have a place to store daily activities, receive special notices, and keep their things neat and tidy.

These materials will be so beneficial to my students, giving them the opportunity to build their independence, enhance their learning, all while staying organized!

As their teacher, I want to make every day a fun learning experience for them. These materials may seem like a simple request, but they are hard to come by. I'd like to create a fun, welcoming, and nurturing environment where my students love to come and learn. Please consider helping support my classroom.
