My Students

With approximately 240 Kindergarten through 5th grade students, my students come from the second smallest school in our district. We are a rural school and our students come from a variety of backgrounds.

Our school prides itself on its sense of community and welcoming environment.

I am working to bring this same welcoming environment to our library space. Libraries are no longer a place that students come to only check out books but rather should be a central hub of activity. I want our space to be a place that classes can come to do research, explore and create, make global connections through video conferencing and technology use, and of course, check out and read great books

My Project

In our library space, we currently have a class set of Chromebooks. These Chromebooks are utilized by students at all grade levels but are used a majority of time by our second through fifth grade students. As a huge proponent of student choice, I am attempting to offer more flexible seating options within our library environment.

Research shows that students are able to focus and do their best work when they are comfortable.

By having lapdesks available for students to use, they will be able to take their Chromebooks to other areas of the library better suited to their learning styles such as the more comfortable, flexible seating environments within our space versus the traditional tables and chairs.
