My Students

The CSS cheerleading and dance teams are composed of talented, dedicated, intelligent, and diverse students who travel from all over the New York City Metropolitan area to attend. Our school is a select STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) school in partnership with Columbia University. We are the only select STEM school that represents the true diverse margins of New York City.

Throughout our existence, our teams have been competing, performing, and giving back to our community.

In our first and second years, we competed and won several competitions and performed at the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. In our second year, we expanded the program and added a junior varsity team due to high demand. Both teams have not only represented the school at games but also have a tradition of performing and holding community events. The enthusiasm our team has not only for their school but also their community enjoys sharing their tradition of staying fierce and bringing the ROAR!

My Project

Having flexibility and balance are key components in cheerleading. With the investment of this equipment, we will be able to teach, train, and drill cheerleaders in new positions and be able to simulate them safely before putting them into action.

The balance stand will allow our flyers to try new positions closer to the ground before putting them in the air.

The stand will also allow them to feel what it's like to try new positions as if their human bases were holding them. This allows them to get more repetitions in before actually doing it in the air and gives the flyer more stability as newer bases are also learning how to hold and adjust their hands.

The flexibility belts will allow the entire team to work on their flexibility. This will help to strengthen their muscles which is required of the sport and will contribute to them having better jumps.
