Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a small school in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. We have students whose families have been in the area for a long time and a lot of students who are just passing through. We have a large population of homeless students and a large population of ELL (English Language Learners) students. For some of my students, school is their safe place. I strive to make my classroom a place they feel loved and can grow in. All my students are excited to be at school and to learn new things! This past year my kids experienced a lot turmoil and change with the wildfire that impacted our area.

My Project

My goal in the classroom is to create readers, writers, and thinkers. I believe strongly that one of these keys to student success is choice. My students are allowed to choose where they sit in the classroom that will best meet their needs. I also believe that 21st century learning involves technology and collaboration. By offering more flexible seating options, my students can work together to become readers, writers and thinkers! The materials in this project will help give my students more choice and mobility in the classroom. They will have a place to store their books as they choose the seat that is best for them.
