My Project

Flexible seating for middle schoolers is a must! I want my students to walk into my classroom and feel at home. This is why I have chosen to move to flexible seating. I want students to have seating options that are best for them and allow them to be comfortable and safe in my classroom.

When my students are comfortable and feel safe they are noticeably more engaged.

I already have 4 stand-up desks in my classroom. I would like to put a stool at each of the stand-up desks to give the students that choose to mostly stand the option to sit if they feel the need to. I will be lowering 2 of my 4-person tables to give students the option to sit on the floor. This is where the floor cushions come in. I don't want them to sit on the hard, cold floor. Again, the point is for them to feel comfortable and at home. I will have a cozy center in the back of the room for reading and independent work time. I need a rug and some pillows to give students this option. I also have a futon couch in my classroom. I want my students to have something other than a clipboard to complete their work on, so I think eating trays would be a great idea! Another way I keep my classroom comfortable is using low lighting. I would like LED light strips to hang around the top of my classroom to provide alternative lighting for my students.

I am very excited about getting this project up and started! I believe transforming my classroom to flexible seating options will help everyone have a more successful year. Help me to make my students' experiences the best it can be!
