My Students

My students are all from an urban, low-income community. They face many challenges throughout their school day. Most importantly are the difficulties they have with concentration in a rigid classroom setting. My goal for the beginning of the school year is to create a space they will love which will be easy to move especially while working in small groups for myself and other learners. Flexible seating will allow my students to take charge of their learning by working in a classroom that works for them!

My Project

Flexible seating will allow my students to take charge of their learning while making the choice of what works best for them! During independent work times, they will have the choice of a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students have two options. 1. standard desk and chair and 2. a plastic surf floor desk. Making sure my students are comfortable for this upcoming school year is an essential component in motivating them.

Having alternative seating choices promotes movement, engagement, and healthy learning.

My students deserve the chance to focus their attention onto their studies rather than their needs getting in the way! I have chosen a variety of seating options so my students have even more choice of their learning environment and what works best for them. Many of my students like to "wiggle", "jump" and "move" so the Balance Ball, Floor Cushion and Wobble Seat will be the best addition to our new classroom! I am eager to see how having students choose their workspace​ will affect their focus and their willingness to work!
