Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are children who come from low-income families who all have a deep desire to learn and be successful. They love hands-on activities and embrace challenges. They come in each day ready to learn despite the challenges they face outside of school. I work in a self-contained classroom with students who have various types of learning disabilities. However, this has not hindered their desire to learn and be successful. They are all great students and bring great energy into the classroom which makes it a pleasure to have them every day.
My Project
My classroom focus is on math and special education. The items I have requested are several folding chairs, stools, and shag rug. These items are designed to help with constructing a classroom that is both welcoming, supports their learning, and addresses their individual needs. Studies show that students learn better when they are physically active and comfortable. Students are able to sit, stand, lay down, etc.
All of these options will give my students the opportunity to best engage with their learning while being comfortable.
The cushion chairs and wobble stools will provide students with alternate options to sit while they are learning. A shag rug allows the students to lay down or sit upright to work on their classwork. The colored pencils allow my students to better organize their thoughts/math procedures.
This project would significantly help my student stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and at home in our classroom. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
