Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are imaginative, resilient, and eager to learn! I teach literacy, math, science, health, and social studies to a class of twenty-six enthusiastic second graders. My second graders enjoy learning in whole and small groups. Their favorite time of day is reading workshop. At this time they enjoy reading silently while I conference with them one-on-one. My second graders also are excited about guided reading where we are able to dig deeper into books.

We are always looking for inventive ways to fund our learning adventures.

Teaching a large amount of students in a high-poverty school comes with its challenges. This is my eleventh year of teaching. I can't wait to make this the best year for my students by creating a better learning environment for them to enjoy.

My Project

Research has proven that traditional seating isn't as effective as flexible seating in the classroom. In an ever changing world why should our students still learn in a traditional seating arrangement?

Some benefits of flexible seating are movement, choice, collaboration, comfort, and sensory input.

By allowing second graders flexible seating they have control over their environment and are more motivated to learn. Students with special needs will be able to stay focused more. Second graders will be able to work together and pair up faster while working collaboratively on projects. Bean bags, stools, and lap desks are comfortable, which helps students stay engaged in learning.
