My Students

I have thirty two first graders who love to read in English and Spanish. In our school, ninety percent of the students receive free or reduced-price meals. My students have very diverse backgrounds and come together to form a wonderful community.

My first graders enjoy participating in literacy activities and they are eager writers and readers.

They love creating stories in both languages and learning new math concepts. They are eager scientists and they are always interested in learning and sharing their cultures.

My Project

Flexible seating is a new and exciting way for students to feel more comfortable in the classroom. Our wobble chairs, bean bags and lap desks will be great ways for students to determine what is the best way they learn. Research shows that flexible seating increases motivation and engagement.

In previous years, I have seen some students struggle with hard and uncomfortable desks and chairs.

It is time we move away from the old ways and try something new! My project, if funded, will replace the uncomfortable chairs and bring something fun and exciting to students.

Every child in the classroom learns in different ways and flexible seating is a way for teachers to help students become more aware of their bodies and their own way of learning. I am looking forward to show my students the new options they have in the classroom.
