My Students

It is essential to me to make our learning environment fun, welcoming, and comfortable for our students to learn. I always ask them to give me their best, and in return I want their environment to be the best. Students have a choice of where they sit in the classroom; we want it to be comfortable.

We are a Title I school, with more than 70% free and reduced lunch.

Many families have both parents working outside of the home. I am a kindergarten inclusion teacher. I have 17 delightful students, 6 girls and 11 boys. Eight of my students have learning disabilities and/or health concerns that qualify them to be in the ESE program. Four of my students speak another language as their first language, ESOL students. Several students come from one parent families or living with relatives. No matter what makes up their educational profile, their personalities shine through with such eagerness and anticipation for each day's lesson. We have made significant growth in our academics as a whole, but the amount of growth with our social skills and team building leaves me in awe of these amazing children. Each child in our classroom leaves smiling and with a feeling they have made a difference in someones day, whether it is my day or a friends.

My Project

I am requesting a carpet for the students to sit on during morning messages, announcements, circle time meetings, centers, and/or reading to self. Our day begins on the floor with our school announcements lasting about 10 minutes. Then after unstacking chairs we meet for math circle time lesson. \We review and learn new skills and use white wash boards in circle time. During our writing block, we meet for Morning Message. During this time, I model sentences and grammar skills for the students to use at their seat. After lunch, we meet back at the carpet for reading. Students sit around for a story and comprehension questions then our foundational skills. During centers, 3-4 students are sitting or laying on the carpet reading or actively engaging in a center. During Social Studies/Science we meet on the carpet again. We end the day with a story and reflection time on the carpet. They love the brain breaks on the carpet throughout the day as well.

This donation will improve our classroom atmosphere tremendously by giving an inviting classroom that students would look forward to coming to the carpet to learn.

It will make them feel better about themselves and their classroom.
