Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is Title I and the majority of our students are second language learners. Most of our students come from a variety of economic backgrounds with over 90% of students receiving free or reduced lunch. Many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school.

Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and always have a smile on their face.

I am a first grade teacher of 16 energetic, fun-loving and creative students who are all unique and special. They all learn in different ways and I want to create the best learning environment to my students.

My Project

My students will benefit from flexible seating by providing an opportunity to release energy. Students will be able to make a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them. They will be able to engage their bodies while staying focused on their learning. Research shows that students are more successful when they feel comfortable and have the ability to move around when needed. We need wobble chairs, balance discs and balance balls for flexible seating options in order to stay engaged and motivated in their learning.

Each student is unique and different in their own special way, including how they learn.

As teachers, it is our responsibility to provide options that will meet the different sensory needs of students. My ultimate goal is to instill the love of learning while providing an environment that allows an enjoyable experience. I will provide alternative seating options that will allow students to make changes, as needed, to meet their needs each day and recognize their uniqueness. I would like to support a variety of different learning styles by offering flexible seating such as wobble stools, balance balls, inflatable cushions and chairs. Together we can build a community learning experience by having many options and student led opportunities that will greatly impact their educational experiences.
