My Students

In any given year, over 150 9th grade students walk through my doorway hoping to learn something from me. These students come to me with differing personal and academic struggles, and I strive to help them grow and flourish as students and individuals.

On any given day, students walk through my door seeking advice, comfort, direction, support, compassion, inspiration, and so much more.

They will come from many different walks of life and academic experiences and hold numerous opinions different from those around them.

My Project

Do you find you learn better at a desk? A couch? A pillow on the floor? A bean bag? A stability ball? My students have expressed interest in all of these ways of learning, and I'm ready to learn how well they learn by adding some new options.

My ninth grade students bounce, wiggle, tap, and dance through the class period attempting to expel energy pent up from sitting in a classroom for hours during the day.

Based on my experience with past classes, students learn best when they are most comfortable. For some students, that comfort is bouncing on an exercise ball, for other students, that comfort is lounging on a bean bag, for other students, that comfort is standing up at a tall table.

Over the years, I have incorporated all of these styles of flexible seating in my class, but those items have seen their days. In the past, my students have enjoyed using conquering their fidgets by bouncing on an exercise ball, so I am asking for two LuxFit exercise ball chairs to provide extra stability beyond the usual exercise ball. I am also asking for two standing desks to accommodate those students who need to be up and moving instead of confined to a desk. Finally, I am requesting some refill bags to sturdy up the bean bag options my students already have in th classroom.
