Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are curious, creative, and hardworking. They love to learn new things. Our school focuses on serving economically disadvantaged students by providing an exceptional education that prepares all students for college, career, and life. One of the ways we accomplish this is to create a classroom culture that values each other. We spend time every day working in groups and partnerships to build a bond and help each other learn.

My students enjoy reading and working with their peers.

I want our room to be a safe and inviting place where they can learn and grow together. I love listening to them help each other learn by discussing their books and stories. They give such great suggestions for story ideas or new characters.

My Project

Students learn better when they have flexible seating and work in cooperative groups. Our classroom has desks that we have arranged in groups and a large open area for class discussions. This project will provide a new cooperative learning space for students to read, write, work on math activities, and work together. Much of our reading and writing is done in partner groups and this project will create a flexible space for groups to work together. This will also be perfect for our books clubs to use for discussing their books. We can also use it during our Math center time. There are so many possibilities for this flexible seating that the options are endless.

I can picture my second graders gathered around the table discussing their favorite books.
