My Project

The learners in my classroom have special needs and often like to move about throughout the day. They range in ages and abilities, but all come with an enthusiasm for learning and lots of love to share!

Flexible seating allows learners to choose a space that is best suited for their needs at the moment.

When working individually, students often like to find their own "special space" in the classroom that helps them to be focused. Sitting at traditional desks next to peers who are working on different tasks can be very distracting. This is why flexible seating saves the day! The wobble stools and chairs will allow individuals to customize the location and feel of their space for the task. Using these items, they can choose to work at a table or on the floor using a clipboard. Adding these options to our existing flexible seating choices will help learners stay on task and work towards their individual goals.

Although students are often working on individualized tasks, positive peer relationships are at the heart of what we do. Currently, when together as a whole group, students simply sit on the tile floor. This rug will provide a welcoming and clean space to gather as a class community.
