I teach in a small rural school district. Our students come from many different backgrounds, including ethnic and economic differences. My classroom is full of diverse individuals with individual learning styles and educational needs. Meeting all of their individual needs can sometimes be a challenge.
My goal is to help my students experience success and provide learning materials to meet each specific need.
Each student in my classroom should have every opportunity to find success and compete in an ever changing world.
My Project
Flexible seating is an option I want my students to have in my classroom. It helps students to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. I have found that some benefits of flexible seating include using up excess energy, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength. It's no surprise that physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior. I want my students to have a choice in how they learn and to choose what works best for them. They can have the opportunity to sit in a variety of ways including Wobble stools, balance balls, flexible bands and use fidget toys as needed. Although they will still have the option, not all students can sit in chairs at desks and tables all day long. After all, it is all about the students and their needs!
