This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a suburb of Miami: Homestead, Florida, a true melting pot of South Florida. My students come from all backgrounds and I love it!! As a teacher I do my best to give my students every resource they need to be successful! They are a group of 23 gifted/exceptional and rambunctious 1st graders (6/7 years old)!

My kids have an abundance of energy and are truly sponges when it comes to new knowledge.

This makes my job easy and exhausting all at the same time and I LOVE IT! In our classroom we crave movement and choice!

My Project

First grade classrooms need to be inviting and student centered. By giving my students different seating options like wobble stools, portable lap desks, balance balls, and fidget feet bands we are giving them the opportunity to wobble, rock, bounce, lean and/or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused.

Flexible seating would make our classroom into what all 1st grade classrooms should be inviting, student centered and full of students who love school, learning, and MOVING!

My project if funded would allow my classroom full of active first graders to move and learn! I would love to be able to give them a classroom where they will be able to choose different seating options that will foster their learning.
