This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a high school Mathematics and Computer Science teacher in a title 1 school and the students I work with every day at my school are inspirational. Working with a diverse population of students has impacted my life immensely and learning about each student, their learning styles, their backgrounds and their cultures teaches me how I can best support them. However, the biggest lesson I learn, is how to love for and care for students that are different from myself and my own experiences. It is through my students that I learn about true strength, intelligence and perseverance. They humble and inspire me every day.

My students show up to school searching for encouragement, academic challenge, and care- I want to implement culturally responsive learning so I can do my part to ensure this will happen.

Every day my students enter the classroom with pure passion and excitement ready to see what's next and what projects they can get their hands on today. Part of this excitement stems from the fact that they know above all I love and care for them. Providing an emotionally and physically safe environment with flexible seating helps foster these strong connections.

My Project

Included in this project are 4 bean bag chairs and 2 standing desks. When I think of my students, I think of diversity. Not only do their ethnic backgrounds vary vastly, but so do their learning experiences and styles.

I want to implement flexible seating so that my students can confidently and comfortably learn in an environment that is best for them!

I always say I wish I could give my students the world. Through DonorsChoose and your gracious acts in funding my projects, I am able to get closer to giving them all the materials and supports needed.
