My Students

Our classroom is practically our second home, I think it should be made as comfortable as possible. Flexible seating will help to improve my classroom for the diverse group of learners. Please help make my classroom a place that is comfortable for all types of children!

I am the Special Education teacher in a low income area in Brooklyn, NY.

We are a Title I school. My 5th grade ICT class integrates special education students into the general education classroom/curriculum. My students are bright, responsible, energetic and curious to explore and learn new things.

My Project

My students need alternate seating in the classroom to help them find a space that works best for them. Unlike years ago, many students do not want to or simply can't sit on a hard chair all day. Also, studies show that students learn better when they are physically active and comfortable. In order to make have them work to their fullest potential they need to find a comfortable spot in the classroom that works for them. For some that may be the desk, but for many special education students it is not.

Many of my students get fidgety and restless while remaining in their seats.

I am asking for flexible seating around the classroom. Some of the seating options that I am asking for are wobble cushions, stools, crates and bean bag chairs.
