This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Flexible seating provides my special education students with the opportunity to engage in learning in ways that meet their individual needs. Many of my students have challenges with attention, focus, and sensory regulation, and traditional seating can often limit their ability to stay engaged.

Flexible seating options—such as wobble chairs, cushions, or balance balls—offer movement and comfort, allowing students to self-regulate, release excess energy, and find the physical support they need to focus on tasks.

The flexible seating floor seats I am asking for will encourage choice and independence, giving students the freedom to choose a learning space that helps them feel most comfortable and successful. For students with sensory needs, the ability to move while sitting can significantly reduce anxiety and frustration, leading to better learning outcomes. In short, flexible seating fosters a more inclusive, student-centered environment where all learners can thrive.

Containers are essential for keeping our center time activities organized and accessible for my students. During center time, students move between different stations that offer a variety of hands-on learning experiences, such as puzzles, art supplies, sensory toys, and manipulatives for math and literacy. Without proper storage, materials can become scattered or lost, making it difficult for students to focus and engage in the activities.
