Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a loveable, courageous and diverse bunch! They bring such a variety of amazing experiences, potential, and culture to the classroom. Academically, they are thirsty to learn and absorb as much information as they can in order to prepare them for the future. Culturally, they are little ambassadors of the different communities they come from and live in. They joyously bring these experiences to school to share with others. As a teacher, it brings me great pride to teach these children.

My classroom comprises of approximately 75% English language learners that range anywhere from the beginning of kindergarten to end of third-grade reading levels, with approximately 63% of them currently performing below grade level.

Despite this disparity, my students persevere through the various challenges they face. I am constantly striving to provide my students with multiple avenues in which to reach their goals.

My Project

These materials will make a huge impact on student learning. When students have choices on where they can sit, they are more likely to be successful. In the past, I have allowed my students to choose between the carpet or desk, but those options are not enough, especially when the floor can be just as hard and uncomfortable as their seat. When students have the choice to sit on wobble chairs, floor seats, seat cushions, or a balance ball, they become more engaged!

Not only do I want to give my students flexible seating options, but I also want to empower them to know more about themselves as learners.
