Flexible Seating for My Room!

My students need more flexible seating, specifically stools and bean bag chairs to be more comfortable in the classroom. I would like the stools and bean bags because they provide an alternative to backed chairs.

My Students

My school is very rural and very high poverty. My students are technologically advanced, but only because our teachers put emphasis on 21st-century skills. Teaching junior high and high school students is one of the greatest privileges I've had in my life to date. I love spending time with them, helping them learn, and watching them be successful. Some parts of that process can be a lot easier when you have the right supplies! I have had DonorsChoose.org projects completed, and every one of them has made a lasting difference in my students. My Project

I have a multifunction classroom. I have art part of the day and English the other part. I would like to provide my students with the ability to choose their preferred seating. The ability to choose their seating has proven to make a student more engaged in their own learning and more focused on what they are doing. Students do their best when they are comfortable. Heck, I do my best work when I'm comfortable. The more choices students have the more they will feel invested and responsible for their learning. When I give my students choices I see greater engagement, more excitement, and a higher desire to learn. Their effort increases and there is a certain amount of pride that comes out in their work.

My students deserve the right to choose how they sit.

Right now I only have the high backed chairs that are old and not as comfortable to everyone for working. The stools would provide another choice.

Also for reading days, I would like students to be able to choose a bean bag. That way they can be more relaxed on a day where reading is our concern.
