My Students

I teach second grade students in a urban community where most students are living below the poverty line. Despite the challenges my students may be facing outside of the classroom, they are a group of bright, energetic and enthusiastic learners. They come to school striving to learn and do their very best each and every day. Every student comes with a unique set of gifts and learning styles to contribute to our school community. Since our school is so small, we have felt the blow of school budget cuts and funding. I feel lucky to be in a place where the teachers, staff and parents all work as a team to make up for these deficits. I believe our children deserve the basic necessities to be successful not only inside the classroom but outside the classroom as well.

My Project

Sitting for long periods of time can be a challenge for anyone, especially young children. Providing students with frequent breaks throughout the school day takes away from essential instruction. These chairs will provide flexible seating that will help my students by increasing attention and focus throughout the long school day. These chairs will also be beneficial for students who struggle to stay on task while seated at their desks by allowing them to move freely while maintaining attention. Not only do they improve balance and posture, but these particular seats also allow for constant movement which is essential to student growth and learning.
