My Students

At my school, located in Las Vegas, Nevada, we have a range of students that are on a multitude of levels and abilities. These students participate in the Reading Trailblazers program that pushes and motivates them to reach their reading goals each and every day. These students come to school knowing school will be exciting and that this school is a safe place for them to achieve their goals.

My Project

My fourth grade students need the ability to feel comfortable and focused throughout the day! Their little bodies aren't meant to stay still. Flexible seating like wobble stools and balance ball seats will help provide students with alternative seating options, while also providing them with ways to increase their focus specifically during silent reading time! These specific flexible seating options are awesome because they are able to be easily sanitized as we are still in the middle of a pandemic!

Flexible seating will help my classroom feel more inviting and make my fourth graders feel safe, clean and comfortable: three things everyone needs to do their best learning!

Silent reading time is heavily cherished in my classroom. If students are able to read and comprehend grade level text, as stated in standards RL.4.10/RI.4.10, many other reading standards come naturally. My fourth graders spend 45 minutes a day silent reading in my class! Giving them a space they are comfortable, allows them to focus more on their reading, creating an environment where they are more successful readers!

I am so excited about this opportunity! If my classroom projects funds, my students will be able to focus on their work as they sit comfortably and feel safe on their wobble stools, yoga balls, and lap desks. Thank you for any support you are able to offer our awesome classroom!
