My Students

I teach in a wonderful school and have 22 enthusiastic first graders! My students are happy, vibrant, and excited about learning each day as they come to school! I love to watch as they learn from me and each other and look forward to the many questions and stories that are shared every day!

My students are so full of love, life, and laughter and I enjoy learning from them as much as they love learning from me.

Our school is an innovative school with a focus on collaborative learning and thinking outside of the box. Our belief is that teaching doesn't have to be done "the way it's always been done." Our focus is on doing what's best for our students and creating an environment where kids learn at their highest potential and in an environment where we can best meet their social, emotional, and academic needs.

My Project

Flexible seating options allow students to choose the working environment that best suits their individual needs often with furniture that allows small bodies to move or wiggle without causing a distraction to others. Learning styles and differentiation have long been discussed as a large component of student success and achievement. My proposed project will complement multiple learning styles and differentiate the work spaces for my students. It will bring a ‘home-like’ atmosphere to the space where our students will spend large portions of their learning day working independently, with peers, and with teachers. Pillows and lap desks will allow students to choose a comfortable space on the floor to work, and stability cushions and wobble chairs will allow little learners to move while they are focused on their learning.

First graders need to move their bodies throughout the day and allowing them the choice of where they will do their learning will ultimately allow them to be more successful learners.

By providing various seating options for independent and collaborative learning, students will ultimately settle into a space where they are in charge of their own learning.
