My Students

I teach in a self-contained Autism center in sunny south Florida. Each of my students are thoughtful, creative, and hardworking. They come to school each day with the odds stacked against them and prove to the world that are just as capable as anyone else by thinking outside of the box and meeting or surpassing the goals set in front of them.

I always like to use the quote, "If you know one person with Autism, you know ONE person with Autism." Each of my students has a unique personality and fall on various parts of the spectrum.

We incorporate all types of learning styles because each students learns in a different way.

We are starting to delve into more sensory and self-stimulatory needs for my students as we see the need grow in the classroom. Many of my students are learning to communicate their wants and needs and giving the professionals that work with them more insight on how to better serve them in the academic setting.

My Project

Alongside Autism, many of my students also have ADD and or stimulatory needs that need to be met in order for them to put their best effort forward. Currently, my classroom consists of 2 bounce chairs that are on their last leg, a hand-me-down rug, three teachers chairs (only one is fully functional) and regular chairs of all sizes that do not accompany the various ages and heights of my students. With balance ball chairs, soft spots, wobble stools and cushions and a bean bag chair students will no longer have to fight over who uses what flexible seating. My students will be able to find what fits their needs at the time and be able to rotate throughout centers (and the day if necessary) with them to maintain focus and attention in the classroom.

By donating tho this project, not only are you helping improve and increase student attention and focus through flexible seating choices, but also to their academic growth.

My students will no longer be forced to fidget on hard plastic chairs but be able to choose a seating options that works for them.
