Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a K-5 elementary school in Jamaica Queens. We have a very diverse population and the majority of our students are newly arrived immigrants from Central, and South America, and Asia. We are also a Title I school.

Our school also has one of the first dual-language programs in the district.

This is the third year since the inception of our dual language program and we are looking forward to starting and finishing this year in person!

My Project

We have all been through a lot during this pandemic, and our youngest students have struggled immensely! Flexible Seating in the classroom will help students feel free and comfortable in their classroom as they can move around and sit where ever they'd like, while being socially distant but not being confined to one area or one type of seat.

Social-Emotional well-being is the focus of our classroom and being able to sit in a seat/spot based on your feelings and mood will help students feel safe, which will in turn help students focus on the academic part of the day.
