I am so excited to share with you my students and our classroom. My students attend a Title I (low income) elementary school in a 2nd/3rd grade combo class. While my students love attending school, they face daily challenges that not all kids endure. My classroom is comprised of students with disabilities, behavior disorders, homeless families, and other struggles. I want my classroom to be the safe place for all of my students the moment they walk through the door. I want our classroom to be a family and a team that shows kindness and supports each other.
My Project
The benefits of flexible seating include providing various choices of seating where students can take ownership of where and how they learn in the most comfortable situation for them. Flexible seating promotes communication and community by allowing students to rotate where they sit and discuss options with their classmates. Flexible seating engages the student's body so that their brain can focus on learning while providing sensory input. The last two years have distanced students and limited their ability to collaborate; flexible seating helps to create groupings, easily limiting the hassle of moving desks and chairs. Most importantly, flexible seating is FUN and helps to establish a kid-friendly environment within the classroom.
