My Students

My class of 26 students are extremely diverse. They speak seven languages besides English and come from anywhere from a low to high socio-economic status. Some students struggle to meet grade-level expectations without extensive supports, while others are gifted and need to be challenged in order to meet their full potential. All of my students are unique and learn in their own way. This wide range of needs can be a challenge, but is more than anything, an asset to the classroom culture.

My Project

Imagine what you see when you walk into a Starbucks. Often you'll see people scattered around the room hard at work on their laptops or in deep conversations with colleagues. Some may be sitting in cozy chairs while others are at traditional tables and chairs. This is flexible seating - giving people the option to choose the space that maximizes their productivity. This is what I want to institute in my classroom.

Flexible seating has been shown to increase motivation and engagement, create better oxygen flow to the brain, and improve core strength and overall posture.* So why don't more classrooms do it?

One word: cost. I need donors to help me institute these (among many other) benefits for my students.
