My Project

Our self-contained autism special education classroom serves students in grades 6-8 who have unique learning needs, particularly those who are nonverbal. As a special educator, my goal is to create a supportive, engaging, and comfortable learning environment that accommodates the diverse sensory needs of my students. I am seeking funding for optional seating and sensory supplies that will enhance their learning experiences and promote their well-being.

Flexible seating options, such as bean bags, wobble stools, and floor cushions, can provide my students with choices that support their individual preferences and sensory needs.

This flexibility can help them focus better during lessons and engage more actively in classroom activities. Additionally, incorporating sensory supplies, such as chewy fidgets, stress balls, and textured toys, will give my nonverbal students effective tools to self-regulate and express their needs.

Many of my students experience difficulty with communication, and providing these sensory resources will help them channel their energy positively, reduce anxiety, and foster an environment where they feel safe and supported. These materials are essential in promoting their social-emotional development and academic engagement, ultimately leading to improved learning outcomes.
