Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are between the ages of seven and eleven. They have been diagnosed with Down Syndrome, Autism, Speech Impairment, Developmental Delays, and more. Most of my students are non-verbal and need to work in communication. Even though they might have the same diagnostic, they each have unique disabilities. I have 9 amazing students, 6 of them were all in my class last year.

Life skills students typically remain in the same Life Skills Unit through all their elementary years

My Project

My students will have an option to change seats and feel comfortable.

My students need to move around and change positions during our day.

Having a choice to decide their seating gives them empowerment and develops critical lifelong skills including self-reflection, autonomy, and collaboration. The traditional chairs are good for a while, then they like to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain to help them keep alert and more focused. That is why we need some new flex seating.

My students would get motivated by adding some new prizes and crafts to our everyday routine.
