My Students

I am a second grade special needs self-contained teacher. I teach in a Title 1 school. My students are amazing and are willing to learn. They just need the resources to do so. My school doesn't have a lot of funding for the necessary supports my students require. We also get supplies, but a limited amount. My students' families are unable to afford most of the materials they need, so I buy it for them. We face a lot of challenges in my school. Many of my students are in foster care or live in shelters. Being in a low-income/high poverty school district is quite challenging. I love my students like I love my own children and providing them with quality education is my main focus, but getting the classroom to be a warm, safe, and loving environment is super important.

My Project

I teach special need students. Giving them options and choice alleviates frustration and hesitation. When children are excited and eager to learn, they worry less about not succeeding. This flexible seating arrangements and resources will allow my students to explore what's best for them and learn in a comfortable and calming way. Not every child learns the same. These choices will help each child find what works for them individually and help them relax and calm down when they may need to. Not to mention, it makes the classroom inviting and the kids want to come to learn each and every day!
