My Project

5th grade students like most middle school students are often confined to desks throughout the day whether during whole group, small group, or independent work time. This often creates a stale learning environment where creativity and excitement can begin to fade.

Flexible seating allows students to find spaces in the room where they feel comfortable.

Choice helps get those creative juices flowing and a sense of freedom allows students to take ownership of their learning. My goal this year to is to do my small group instruction on the carpet using these floor seats instead of a table so that students have a mixture of learning environments as well. School should be a place where students feel comfortable, safe, and ready to learn. These seats will be part of creating this environment for my students. They deserve a classroom that sparks their curiosity, allows them a space to be creative problem solvers, and have their voice heard.
