Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kindergarten students are some of the most loving, imaginative, and hard-working kids I have ever met. Their joy is contagious, and you cannot help but get excited to learn and play with them once you enter our classroom.

True global citizens, my 32 students embrace those around them with compassion and empathy, eager to learn about the differences that make up our bilingual classroom.

My students are curious, creative, and eager to learn about their world.

While our school strives to meet high social-emotional and academic standards, it faces many challenges unfortunately common in urban education. Our Title I public school in Washington, D.C. serves a diverse group of students, with 54% receiving English Language Learner support and 10% receiving Special Education support. 100% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. As a dual language school, our students have 50% of their education in Spanish, and the other 50% in English.

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent reading times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students choices for independent reading is at their tables or in the carpet. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. The Soft Seats and Comfy Floor Seats that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. In addition, the book totes will be great for my students in order to go "book shopping" in our classroom library.
