Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach English language learners and students with disabilities in a Title I public school in New York City. Most of my students come from Hispanic backgrounds where Spanish is the dominant language spoken at home. My students are always excited to learn new things. They face challenges in learning the English language; however, they have the willingness to learn and do their absolute best every day.

My Project

We currently have 20 students in an ICT setting, all of our students are English language learners and/or students with disabilities. There are 3 teachers in my classroom and we prioritize small group instruction to meet the different needs of our students.

Small group instruction has proven to be more impactful and engaging when each teacher has access to equitable space and materials.

Throughout the day, all content areas are taught in small groups. The progress in our student learning in these small groups is evident. Not only is learning more impactful this way, but many of our students feel less anxiety working in smaller groups after two years of remote learning.

These items will help the teachers in our classroom set up adequate spaces so that all our small groups have access to the same materials and setting space.

These items will give each teacher an equitable space to make their own and organize their materials to facilitate instruction.
