Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students enjoy sitting on the floor to learn, read books, practice their speech and their communication via games and activities. I want to give my students a flexible, comfy, cozy, and clean sitting area where learning can take place. I have observed that when they sit on the floor, they are able to increase their focus and attention to the lesson.

My goal is to encourage learning and increase attention by giving my students the flexibility to choose where they want to sit while we practice our communicational skills.

My students, who have neurological and communication disorders will enjoy the freedom of choosing where they want to sit on the carpet I'm requesting.

They will also have the opportunity to choose from a selection of colors (i.e., orange, blue, dark blue, and green) for their sensory cushion. The sensory cushions will encourage balance and core stability in addition to allowing my students, specifically with Autism and ADHD movement to stay alert and regulate. This will also help students who are non-verbal or lack verbal output improve their receptive and expressive language by making choices and requesting/selecting from a variety of colors.

The vacuum will be used to clean the carpet daily to ensure a clean space and environment!
