Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In the last couple of years, roughly 66% of high school students have dropped out of school in New York City.

Since 2009, from the time that I got the opportunity to coach here, 100% of my student athletes have graduated from high school.

My name is Mr. G. I serve as the Boys Varsity Head Coach at APRHS. One of the main hurdles that I have encountered as a head coach yearly is finding funds for our teams.

The population that I coach is very resilient. They are not your average high school student athletes. The majority of my student athletes have extra responsibilities that entail babysitting little siblings, babysitting grandparents, potential after-school employment due to family financial hurdles, and most importantly, they still need to meet their academic daily goals. Academics are always top priority in my program!

My Project

Donations for this project will make a difference in my team by helping us stay injury free through out the season and improving speed burst in the game of basketball. Our team executes dynamic warm ups and static stretching daily. These methods are effective, but changing routines, exercises, and variations will help improve the overall flexibility of each student-athlete.

During the preseason, conditioning and flexibility are components that are essential in order for a student-athlete to start and finish a season.

The body of an athlete can truly surpass certain limitations if nutrition, conditioning, and flexibility are worked on within a consistent basis. In order to built consistency, different flexibility variations need to be implemented in order for all student-athletes to stay motivated and engaged.
