This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students, whom I have the privilege of teaching, are amazing. I am a PE teacher at a low-income, inner-city public school. Our physical education department would like to enhance our curriculum by adding more fitness activities that will captivate our students. Combatives is one of the required curriculum courses taught in high school PE. We currently provide lessons on shadow boxing and other forms of martial arts, but our students often lose interest because they tend to want to hit something.

Incorporating boxing gloves and punching mitts into our lessons will give the students the motivation to work up a sweat in a fun way.

Our PE department is constantly finding fun activities to engage our students in fitness. We plan to incorporate boxing into our year-long curriculum where we can safely teach our students boxing techniques. The class set of boxing gloves and punching mitts will allow the students to work with a partner and throw punches at a target while being safe. Not only will they burn a lot of calories, but they can also relieve stress in a positive outlet.
