Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from low-income families and 94% receive free or reduced lunch. Every student takes Math, Physical Education, Science, English, and History. I'm fortunate to work with students that have incredible self-determination and grit, given the limited amount of resources they have at home and in their community.

Our students show incredible perseverance, tenacity, courage, and the will to be resilient through adversity.

My Project

As an educator of Health and Physical Education, I strive to teach the importance of a healthy lifestyle. My passion is to teach students healthy habits, so they can improve their physical and mental health. I emphasize fitness, nutrition, and safety with all my students, and these gym mats will provide a high quality P.E. class that our students deserve.

These fitness mats will provide a comfortable and safe alternative to working out on unsafe asphalt or concrete.

We are a charter school with limited outdoor space and without access to a field or gym. Our only option is playing on hot or uneven asphalt. This is not only uncomfortable, but it is also a safety issue. These gym mats will protect our students from injuries while doing high impact activities and exercises. Gym mats will decrease the severity of an accident while doing activities like push-ups, sit-ups, and stretching.
