Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students spend a lot of their time indoors and lack exercise and physical activity. They live in an urban area where outdoor play is limited. During the colder months our outdoor play at school is minimal. One of my goals is to ensure that my students learn the importance of moving their bodies, eating healthy, getting enough sleep, and making good choices to maintain a healthy and strong body.

I would like my students to engage in a friendly competition against one another to encourage and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

The project my students would participate in would entail them wearing a Samsung Galaxy watch for the entire school day where we can track their movement, heart rate, etc. while engaging in different physical activities. Students will count their steps, chart their heart rate during different fitness games and reflect on how these things affect their physical well-being. Students will monitor their individual progress and class progress while competing in a fitness challenge. This will instill self-confidence and team-building skills while providing them with mental health and physical education. We are also asking for chargers and extra watch bands so that the watches could be rotated amongst our students.

We will compare which activities are most beneficial for our bodies. We will chart our results and sync them into the student tablets so that the parents can follow their progress at home. Perhaps we can encourage families to be more active together to keep healthy.
